はばかり【憚り】

1 〔恐れはばかること〕 fear; awe; 〔ためらい〕 hesitation; hesitancy; 〔気のとがめ〕 compunction; scruple(s); 〔遠慮〕 reserve; deference.

●何のはばかりもなく出入りする come and go freely [unhindered].

2 〔さしさわり〕 hindrance.

●(…することは)はばかりがある have scruples 《about doing》; hesitate 《to do》.

3 〔便所〕 ⇒べんじょ.

はばかりさま 1 〔(苦労かけた人に)ありがとう〕 Thank you for your trouble.
